STATEMENT ON TWEETS AUTHORED BY ONE OF OUR STAFF

The Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) is a non-governmental organization that stands for inclusion, protection, security and dignity of women and girls. Our attention has been drawn by the recent opinion on social media by one of our staff members

CREAW regrets the grievous comments and slurs made online by one of our staff. While the tweets were to spur a conversation, he understands that his action has caused discomfort and further vulnerability to women and girls.

As an organization we endeavour to promote and protect the rights of women and girls as such we do not tolerate actions that promotes sexism and advances toxic masculinity. Our apology goes out to the survivors of gender-based violence, the women of Kenya and Kenyans. As an organization working to uphold women’s rights in Kenya, we have a special responsibility to protect and promote an environment where women and girls enjoy full rights and live in dignity.

In light of the above, we have taken measures and steps to ensure that our staff conduct themselves in a manner that safeguards and protects the rights and dignity of women and girls at all times.

Signed
